Botswana moved early - the Virtual Assets Act 2022 gave it one of Africa's first real crypto regimes, run by NBFIRA. VASPs like exchanges and token issuers must register, with due-diligence and consumer-protection standards, and the regulator enforces it. In a stable, well-governed African economy, it is a credible base for the continent. We build the company and the registration end to end.

An early African mover, enforced.
Botswana was among the first African countries to write a dedicated crypto law. The Virtual Assets Act came into force on 22 February 2022 and put virtual-asset business under NBFIRA, the Non-Bank Financial Institutions Regulatory Authority. VASPs - exchanges and token issuers among them - must register, and the Act sets due-diligence and consumer-protection standards. This is not a paper regime: NBFIRA gave existing operators a short window to regularise and has since treated unregistered VASPs as illegal, actively clamping down. The rules are real and enforced.
The appeal is a stable, well-governed African economy with a credible regulator and an early, settled framework - a base to serve the continent lawfully rather than grey-market. Botswana is an onshore market with a 22% corporate tax, so it is a regime-and-position play, not a tax one, and we say so. What you build is a Botswana company, the NBFIRA registration for your activity, and the due-diligence, consumer-protection and AML programme behind it. We assemble the company, the registration and the compliance together.

Taxation and the honest position in Botswana.
A moderate onshore African rate - 22% corporate tax. Botswana is a regime-and-stability play, and we set the tax out plainly.

The Botswana crypto registration, answered honestly.
Is there a real crypto regime in Botswana?+
Yes - the Virtual Assets Act 2022, in force since 22 February 2022 and run by NBFIRA. It is one of Africa's earliest dedicated crypto laws, and it is enforced: VASPs must register or they operate illegally.
Who must register?+
VASPs - exchanges and token issuers among them - must register with NBFIRA and meet due-diligence and consumer-protection standards. Unregistered operators are treated as illegal.
Why Botswana rather than offshore?+
For a stable, well-governed African base with a credible, enforced regime - a lawful foothold to serve the continent. Offshore gives tax, not a regulated African position.
How is it taxed?+
22% corporate tax, with crypto following the general rules - it is not a tax haven. You pay onshore tax for a regulated African base, and we plan it into the model.
How strict is enforcement?+
Real. NBFIRA gave operators a short window to regularise and has since clamped down on unregistered VASPs. The registration matters because the regulator enforces it.
How long does it take?+
Realistically a few months once the file is complete. The due-diligence, consumer-protection and AML quality is what keeps the NBFIRA review moving.
Botswana or Namibia?+
Both are Southern African regimes. Botswana is an early, registration-based mover; Namibia's 2023 Act is a class-based licensing regime. Model, market and comfort decide, and we help you choose.
Why Botswana with you?+
Because NBFIRA registers on the file - the due diligence and AML. We build Botswana registrations to the standard the regulator and the banks read, which is what makes them usable.
A real regime?+
Yes - Virtual Assets Act 2022 (NBFIRA).
Who registers?+
Exchanges, token issuers - or operate illegally.
Why not offshore?+
For a stable, regulated African base.
Tax?+
22%; crypto on general rules.
Enforcement?+
Real - unregistered clamped down on.
How long?+
A few months once complete.
Botswana or Namibia?+
Registration vs class-based licensing.
Why with us?+
