Get a crypto license in Norway.
Norway licenses crypto under MiCA through the Kryptoeiendelsloven, with Finanstilsynet as the single authority. It is not an EU member, yet the licence passports across the whole EEA - 30 countries, roughly 450 million people. We build that file end to end.

Outside the EU, inside the single market.
Norway is not an EU member, so MiCA did not apply here automatically - it had to be written into Norwegian law. That happened through the Kryptoeiendelsloven, the Crypto-Assets Act, in force from 1 July 2025, which names Finanstilsynet as the competent authority for crypto-asset service providers. Because the authorisation process turned out to be heavier than first planned, the deadline for existing providers to hold a CASP licence was pushed to 30 June 2026. The old AML registration route is closing behind it.
The point of a Norwegian licence is the passport it carries. As an EEA state, Norway sits inside the same single market as the 27 EU countries plus Iceland and Liechtenstein - so a CASP authorisation from Finanstilsynet opens all 30 EEA markets, around 450 million people, from one home regulator. Around that sits one of the most stable, transparent and digital economies on earth: a AAA sovereign, the world's largest wealth fund behind it, and counterparties who read «Norwegian licence» as a mark of seriousness. The first crypto-native CASPs were authorised here in 2026, and the register is open. We build files for it.

The Norwegian crypto licence, answered.
What licence does a crypto business need in Norway?+
CASP authorisation from Finanstilsynet under MiCA, as transposed by the Kryptoeiendelsloven - required for exchange, brokerage, custody, transfer, advice and trading-platform services. The old AML registration route is closing behind it.
Norway is not in the EU - does the licence still passport?+
Yes. Norway is an EEA member, which is the same single market for financial services. A Finanstilsynet CASP authorisation passports into all 30 EEA states - the 27 EU countries plus Iceland and Liechtenstein.
How much capital is required?+
MiCA's three classes: €50,000 for advice and order services, €125,000 for exchange, execution and custody, €150,000 for a trading platform - or a quarter of annual fixed overheads if that is higher.
When did Norway start licensing, and what is the deadline?+
The Kryptoeiendelsloven took effect on 1 July 2025 and Finanstilsynet began authorising CASPs. Because the process proved more demanding than expected, the deadline for existing providers to hold a licence was extended to 30 June 2026.
How long does authorisation take?+
The MiCA clock is 25 working days to completeness plus 40 for assessment, but Finanstilsynet's completeness bar is the real timeline. Well-prepared files land in 6-10 months; thin files circle far longer.
What substance does Finanstilsynet expect?+
A Norwegian AS with effective management in the country: a competent board and management, a compliance function on the ground, a real office and systems that demonstrably run. Letterbox structures are rejected.
How are crypto companies taxed?+
A flat 22% corporate rate on profits - competitive for Northern Europe. Crypto-fiat exchange sits outside standard VAT as a financial service. Note that a personal net wealth tax applies to resident individuals, which we model at the owner level.
Why Norway rather than an EU desk?+
Same single-market reach, a different story to tell. A AAA sovereign, the world's largest wealth fund and a careful regulator make «Norwegian licence» a mark of seriousness - while the passport still covers all 30 EEA states.
What licence is needed?+
Finanstilsynet CASP authorisation under MiCA - the route in.
Not in the EU - passport?+
Yes - EEA member; covers all 30 EEA states.
Capital?+
€50k / €125k / €150k by service class.
Deadline?+
Existing providers: 30 June 2026.
How long?+
6-10 months; completeness drives it.
Substance?+
AS, board, real office and compliance.
Company taxes?+
22% flat; exchange outside VAT.
Why Norway?+
Same EEA reach, a AAA sovereign story.
