Monaco in brief

A principality that runs on selection, not taxation.

Monaco abolished personal income tax in 1869 and never looked back: residents pay nothing on income, nothing on capital gains, nothing on wealth, and direct-line inheritance passes at zero. The corporate layer follows its own logic. A company earning more than a quarter of its turnover outside the principality pays 25% on profits, while genuinely local business pays no corporate tax at all. Around this sits the French VAT and customs system, banking at private-wealth standard, and the square mile where the world's money keeps its yachts.

Monaco is selective by design, and it helps to hear that early. Every business activity requires the government's prior authorisation - a real review of the founders, the plan and its benefit to the principality, taking one to three months and refusing files it doesn't like. The SARL needs €15,000, the prestigious SAM €150,000 and two directors. Offices are the world's most expensive, banks commonly expect seven-figure relationships, and French nationals are carved out of the personal tax benefits by treaty. Monaco is not a shortcut; it is an address you qualify for, usually paired with residency, and we run both files as one project.

The principality runs on selection: residents pay nothing on income, gains or wealth; companies pay 25% only when over a quarter of turnover is international - local business pays none. French VAT rails, private-wealth banking, 150 years of not changing course.

Every business passes a real government review (1-3 months, refusals happen), the SARL needs €15k and the SAM €150k, premises are the planet's priciest, French nationals are carved out. Monaco is an address you qualify for - usually with residency, run as one file.

Requirements

What Monaco actually demands.

01
Government authorisation - Every activity needs prior approval. Founders, plan and benefit to the principality are genuinely reviewed.
02
Qualified founders - Clean records and demonstrable substance. The file is a dossier, not a form.
03
Capital - SARL: €15,000. SAM: €150,000 with two directors. SCI for property: flexible.
04
Registered premises - A real Monaco address. Domiciliation to start, offices as the activity grows.
05
Local benefit - The state prefers businesses that employ, spend or add standing locally. We frame yours accordingly.
06
Accounts & filings - Annual accounts and tax filings; the 25% regime brings French-style computations. Our partners carry them.
How it works

Taxation 2026

Zero for people, quarter for exporters.

Residents pay no income tax, no capital-gains tax, no wealth tax; direct-line inheritance passes at zero. Companies split by geography: more than 25% of turnover earned outside the principality brings a 25% profit tax (with French-style computation and generous director-remuneration deductions); purely local business pays none. VAT runs the French system at 20%.0% personal for residents (French nationals excepted); 25% corporate only when >25% of turnover is international; VAT 20% via France.

FAQ

What people ask before Monaco.

Can I open a Monaco company without visiting?+

The dossier and much of the process run remotely, but Monaco is a relationship jurisdiction: the government may wish to meet founders, and banks almost always do. Plan one or two visits, typically combined with the residency file that most clients run in parallel.

How much does it cost?+

From €6,900 for the authorisation and company, from €12,000 with principality banking, renewals from €5,000 a year - before premises, which are the world's most expensive per square metre. Monaco prices participation, not paperwork. If the budget argues, we'll name Andorra or Dubai instead.

Is there really no income tax?+

For residents, none since 1869: no income tax, no capital-gains tax, no wealth tax, and direct-line inheritance at zero. The one carve-out: French nationals remain taxable in France by bilateral treaty. The policy has survived every European tax wave for 150 years; stability is the product.

What corporate tax will my company pay?+

Geography decides: if more than 25% of turnover arises outside Monaco, profits pay 25% under French-style rules, softened by real deductions - notably director remuneration, which flows untaxed to a resident owner. Purely principality-focused business pays no corporate tax at all. We model the split before you commit.

How hard is the government authorisation?+

Real, and that is the point. The economic-development department reviews founders' backgrounds, the business plan, financing and the venture's benefit to Monaco, over one to three months, and refuses files it dislikes. Our pre-qualification tells you before anything is filed whether yours will pass; then we build the dossier to the standard the department expects.

SARL, SAM or SCI?+

SARL (€15,000): the working company for services and trade. SAM (€150,000, two directors): the prestige form for finance, larger ventures and anything wanting the anonyme name. SCI: the civil vehicle for holding principality real estate with clean succession. Most operating clients start SARL; the file tells us if yours shouldn't.

How does residency pair with the company?+

Naturally - it is usually the same project: an apartment (bought or leased), a principality bank relationship of substance, clean records, and the carte de séjour follows. The company gives economic purpose; the residency delivers the 0% personal regime. We run both files as one calendar.

What do Monaco banks expect?+

Private-banking expectations, stated as they are: CMB, CFM and the resident houses want to understand the person, the wealth and its source, and typically expect relationships in the seven figures. A prepared file opens serious doors; an unprepared one wastes a famous address. We build to their standard before the first meeting.

Monaco or Dubai / Andorra?+

Dubai offers 0% personal at scale with a 9% corporate rate and a different pace of life. Andorra delivers a 10% world at a fraction of the cost. Monaco offers the original: 150 years of fiscal stability, European legal comfort, and an address that is itself a credential. Budget-led cases go elsewhere - and we say so; the rest come here.

How long does it take?+

Plan two to four months end to end: weeks to build the dossier, one to three months of government review, then incorporation, registry and banking in a few weeks more. Residency runs on a parallel calendar. Monaco cannot be rushed; it can only be prepared properly, which is the entire service.
